Join us at Cleveland House for lunch* and a discussion with Janet Frank about her career as a cellist in the National Symphony Orchestra.
Janet Frank, a native of Washington DC, began cello in the DC public school system. She is an alumna of Barnard College and the Manhattan school of music where she studied cello with Bernard Greenhouse (the cellist of the Beaux-Arts trio). While still in college, she played in Leopold Stokowski’s. American Symphony Orchestra, meaning that her first job as a professional was playing at Carnegie Hall. A member of the National Symphony’s cello section for nearly 50 years, she is an avid chamber musician — a founding member of the Altair trio. Her articles about music related subjects have appeared in the American scholar, the journal of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She holds a private pilot license, single engine land, and glider.
